This part-time photography programs offers series of courses incorporating the introductory to advanced levels, and the artistic to technical aspects of photography. Program topics include an overview of the history of photography as an art form as well as the use of 35 mm film-based cameras, but specifically focus on all components of digital SLR photography, including digital photo editing. The program is designed for beginners or hobby-photographers interested in acquiring or improving their skills in photography toward the professional-hobbyist level and/or semi-professional business and career applications.
This Photography program prepares individuals for semi-professional business and career applications in the field of photography. Possible career paths include:
- Professional Photographer’s Assistant (Apprentice)
- Privately owned small business – photographic services
- Freelance Photographer
- Photojournalism careers (with appropriate Journalism credentials)
How to Register
Students do not apply to our part-time programs. Instead, enrol in and successfully complete each course listed in the Program Delivery section. Once you have successfully completed all of the required courses, you may apply to graduate. If you aren't sure how to enrol in a course, you can learn more here.
Prerequisites may be required for these courses. Please refer to individual course descriptions for specific requirements.
As of the end of the Fall 2016 term, Digital Darkroom I and Digital Darkroom II – Photo Editing, Intro and Intermediate (JOUR1010 and JOUR1020) will be replaced with a new “required” course – Photography Editing Fundamentals.
Past completion of the Digital Darkroom I and II (JOUR1010 and JOUR1020) courses will continue to be recognized towards the Photography Part-Time Program of Study completion.
