This course is designed to introduce you, the student, to the process of counselling including characteristics of the counsellor and the expectations of the child and youth, from a client centred perspective. You will have the opportunity to become familiar with a selection of counselling/helping techniques and frameworks which are used in a variety of settings. You will learn principals such as relational practice and life space as it pertains to cultural and human diversity. This course will address some of the problems encountered in the counselling process and promote communication and organizational skills. You will develop the knowledge of self-care strategies and self-awareness to enhance your ability as a child and youth care practitioner.
