Introduction to Inter Cultural Communications

Course Code: COMM1003P
Credits: 3

Students will learn the definition of culture and are introduced to inter-cultural communication theories (for example, differences in gestures, personal spaces, and customs). By identifying inter-cultural issues in North American society, we are going to discuss how these theories apply to our daily lives and how we can use them to respect differences between cultures. The main objective of this course is to enhance the students' ability to communicate with people from different origins comfortably. As part of the course, students will communicate with people from other cultures electronically, as well as in-person. This course is of interest to workers in health, education, human services and businesses that have regular interactions with people of foreign descent.
