Medical Office Clerical Procedures
You will learn the administrative and clerical responsibilities of the Medical Office Assistant. Topics to be discussed include client/patient reception, booking of appointments and procedures, diagnostic and laboratory tests, effective communication with clients/patients, medical ethics and the law, management of medical records, charting, telephone procedures, computer systems in the medical office, financial billing and accounts, and WSIB procedures. You will examine the Canadian Health Act, the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), and learn the principles of OHIP medical billing.
