Niagara College Master Plan
Welland Campus
Academic Wing
- Two 140-seat lecture theatres
- Three 70-seat lecture rooms
- Labs, classrooms and faculty offices
- Paramedic, Social Service Worker, Police Foundations and Criminal Justice programs will move from the Mackenzie Building, a 40-year-old, ‘temporary’ building that will be demolished
Library and Learning Commons
- Internal courtyard with an atrium roof to create a light-filled and inviting library and learning commons
- Will become the heart of the campus linking library, cafeteria, computer resources and major classrooms
- Barrier free environment to promote informal, social learning with study areas, lounge and meeting rooms
Athletic Centre
- Two-storey glazed entry concourse and Athletic Hall of Fame
- Double varsity-sized gymnasium with bleacher seating for up to 1,000 spectators to cheer on sports competitions. The space will also be suitable for hosting College and community events.
- Expanded fitness and aerobics centres
- Central athletic therapy area
- Ample change rooms for students, faculty, referees and public use
- Partial green roof to further campus sustainability and help with roof water management
- Complex will be expandable for a future third gym and related spaces
Student Centre
- Two-storey great hall with attached games room
- Enhanced bar and food serving facilities
- Alumni lounge overlooking the gym
- Internal connections directly to the gym for special events
- Prominent new meeting / work room
- Office space for the Student Administrative Council facility managers and student union
- Food bank with more capacity and in a more private location
- Enclosed outdoor patio and volleyball court
Skilled Trades and Technology Centre
- 70,000 sq. ft. of new and renovated lab and classroom space added to building that opened in 2007
- Create more than 700 new spaces in skilled trade and apprentice programs
- Support trades such as welding, metal fabrication, construction, carpentry, cabinetmaker and electrician
- Increased space for welding programs that will move from the Mackenzie building, which will be demolished
- New classroom space
Applied Health Institute Funded jointly by the Governments of Canada and Ontario through the Knowledge Infrastructure Program and the 2009 Ontario Budget
The Applied Health Institute will accommodate key health programs and related community health services in a new integrated facility and create spaces for 1,000 new students each year. it will also provide space for the high-demand programs of Practical Nursing and Personal Support Worker, which are currently delivered in a rented space. The Applied Health Institute will also accommodate the College's Dental programs, as well as the community dental clinic. The economic impact of this project is expected to exceed $128 million, with 1,200 jobs created, predominantly in the Niagara Region.
Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus
Wine Visitor and Education Centre
- Integrate academic programming, operational teaching winery and educational centre for students, industry, community and visitors
- Space to showcase the wine industry
- Operational winery teaching facilities include: state-of-the-art wine production lab, viticulture and oenology labs, wine classroom, barrel aging, wine library and crush area
- External features include Vineyard Terrace, Terroir Classroom and a fabulous view of Niagara Escarpment across the rows of the College’s 40-acre vineyard
Culinary Skills expansion
- Expansion of the Culinary Skills training area includes additional food lab, and more space for food storage and central stores
- Expanded capacity for apprentice and short-term culinary training, a critical skill for the Niagara economy
