Academic Safety Programs
The objectives of this program include the following:
- To obtain and maintain support for academic programs at all levels of the college, including staff and students.
- To motivate, educate, and train all staff and student groups in the recognition, reporting, and correction of hazards in the workplace, which will improve the level of understanding of all staff and students regarding the connection between safety, productivity, quality, mutual respect, and an enriched learning environment.
- To provide controls for student exposure to potential hazards through the use of safe work practices and rules, personal protective equipment, and to plan for a program of intradepartmental inspections and preventative maintenance for machinery, equipment, tools, and facilities.
Footwear Protection Program
The Footwear Protection Program aims to prevent potential foot injuries from hazards associated with slips and falls, falling objects, rolling stock/equipment, sharp objects, hot objects/environment, electrical shock, chemicals, and biological waste.
WHMIS Training Program
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is a program that was enacted to reduce the risk of injuries, sickness, and disease in the workplace by educating workers on the proper use, handling, and identification of hazardous materials. We are pleased to announce that Niagara College is now providing an upgraded on-line WHMIS tutorial to our employees.
The tutorial can be accessed via the G drive (G:\Applications\WHMIS\Trainer), and takes approximately 3 hours to complete. However, you can exit the program at any point and resume where you left off at anytime.
