A family of five that recently moved into a Habitat for Humanity Niagara house that Niagara College students built have now been displaced after a devastating fire on September 2.

The Welland Tribune reported a fire at 47 Sauer Ave. in Welland, which began at a neighbouring property.

The house was as part of a partnership between Habitat for Humanity Niagara and Niagara College. NC students began building the modular house at the Welland Campus last fall, and it was transported to Sauer Ave. this spring. The Vicentes family, originally from Colombia, received the keys to their new home at the beginning of July at a special Habitat home dedication ceremony.
