This is an exciting time for us at Niagara College, as we expect a record number of students – an estimated 10,000 – for our upcoming fall term.

Preparing to welcome thousands of students to our campuses is a monumental effort, and I would like thank all staff and faculty members for their outstanding work and dedication. From recruiting new students, to providing them with the quality education and support they need throughout their NC journeys, your efforts demonstrate true ‘NC spirit’ and serve to create a College community that is second to none.

With the new academic year around the corner, I encourage all staff and faculty to participate in Niagara Day on Wednesday, August 30. The event is a wonderful annual tradition at our College, which ushers in the beginning of a new academic year while providing an opportunity for us to reconnect as a learning community.

Niagara Day will be held at the Welland Campus (gymnasium) from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. for light refreshments and networking.

As you may have noted, this year’s Niagara Day event is scheduled to begin later in the morning and has been trimmed to a 90-minute program. These changes have been made in response to valued employee feedback. It is our hope that the shorter agenda will help boost employee attendance at this busy time of year.

As always, one of the highlights of Niagara Day will be to generate awareness and recognize our colleagues who are truly the best of the best. We are proud to present our 2017 Awards of Excellence, as well as Service Awards, the Niagara Champions Award, and College Educator Development program certificates at the event.

We will also welcome some students to the podium to share their personal ‘NC stories’ with us. Hearing about how their experience at NC has impacted their lives should remind us all of the key role we play in the success of our students, and will be sure to inspire us as we continue our NC mission of ‘enriching lives and fulfilling dreams’ this fall.

Best wishes to all for a successful fall term and I look forward to seeing you at Niagara Day, August 30!
