Help students put their best professional image forward by donating to NC’s student career clothing Drive.
Staff at the Centre for Student Engagement and Leadership, and Career and Co-op Services are rolling up their sleeves to organize the clothing drive, which will take place at the Welland Campus on Monday, January 23 (Applied Health Foyer) and at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus on Wednesday, January 25 (outside of W115).
Dana Brown noted that the event is being held in advance of the All About Options Employment Expo to help ensure students arrived prepared. She noted the importance of presenting professional image while networking and that students often aren’t sure of the appropriate clothing to wear when meeting with employers.
“Many students think that it’s all about their resume when applying for jobs and acing their interviews, but looking professional and put-together is important too,” she said. “That’s one of the messages we will be sharing with students as they drop by the clothing drive: how to dress appropriately for interviews and the workplace.”
She noted that the initiative not only aims to educate students about what clothing is appropriate and inappropriate for interviews and jobs their chosen industry, but to help them present themselves well without straining their finances.
“We know that professional clothing and shoes can be very expensive, and students are busy paying for their education and textbooks, so we thought this was a great idea for them to be able to spruce up their wardrobes without spending the money,” said Brown.
Any leftover clothing from the drive will be donated to local charities.
Staff and faculty are asked to take a look through their closets – and encourage friends and family to do the same – and donate any professional clothes, shoes, and accessories that they no longer have a use for.
Where to drop off donations
Donations can be dropped off in SE101 or L20 in Welland, and in W115 in NOTL, preferably by January 16, but any time before the Clothing Drive.
