Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded for scholastic achievement. In certain cases, financial need may be taken into account as a secondary criterion to decide between candidates of approximately equal achievement.

Community and volunteer involvement is often considered when awarding scholarships, and review committees will often contact community or volunteer references that are provided for additional background as to your relationships with these organizations.

Bursaries

A Bursary is a grant that is distributed on the basis of financial need. When applying for a bursary you must complete an application form detailing your current financial status. This application form can be downloaded from this website. In most cases bursaries are awarded anonymously.

Niagara College Foundation Scholarships and Bursaries

The Foundation was established in 1989 to promote interest in, and awareness of, Niagara College and to seek and maintain funds for the improvement, development and exclusive benefit of the College.

To apply for Scholarships and Bursaries available through the Niagara College Foundation, please follow these easy steps:

  • Step One: Make sure to submit the budget form online. Only one budget form needs to be completed for all the awards you apply for.
  • Step Two: Check under the Program Specific Awards section to see if any awards are available for your specific program. Then check the Non-Program Specific Awards section to see additional awards available. You may also check the Financial Need Only section. In this section you only have to fill out the General Application once to be considered for the awards listed in this section.
  • Step Three: To apply to an award, print and complete the application form for the award. If any other documents are required, which will be stated on the application form, attach these with the application form. Photocopies of required documentation are acceptable.
  • Step Four: You must apply to each award listed in the Program Specific and Non-Program Specific sections separately. Repeat Step 3 for each award you would like to apply for.
  • Step Five: The deadline to apply is September 30, 2010. Please submit all applications to the Financial Aid Office at either the Welland or Niagara-on-the-Lake campus by this deadline. Applications can be dropped off in-person or mailed to the following address:

Project Hero

Niagara College has joined a unique National program designed to provide financial support to the children of fallen Canadian soldiers.

Inspired by retired General Rick Hillier and Honorary Lt. Colonel Kevin Reed, Project Hero is a program through which colleges and universities offer scholarships and bursaries for dependent children of Canadian Forces personnel killed while serving in an active military mission.

Project Hero is a way for the College to recognize the sacrifices made by Canadian men and women in defence of freedom around the world while creating opportunities for young people who may otherwise be unable to pursue their dreams. Niagara College is very proud to join this important initiative.

The scholarship program will provide tuition and help to offset other expenses for the duration of the recipient’s full-time program of study.

The Project Hero Scholarship Fund furthers Niagara College’s commitment to providing financial assistance to help students and parents with the costs associated with post-secondary education.
