Speaker Bio

Dr. Brian E. McCarry
Department of Chemistry
McMaster University

Dr. Brian McCarry
Science Inquiry in First Year at McMaster University

Dr. McCarry will be presenting on Saturday at 9am in the Yerich Auditorium.

Brian McCarry is the Chair of the department of Chemistry and the first Stephen A. Jarislowsky Chair in Environment & Health in recognition of his leading role in environmental chemistry and environmental toxicology. He is also the Chair of Clean Air Hamilton, a community initiative that promotes and supports improvements to air quality in the City of Hamilton.

Dr. McCarry's research uses the techniques of analytical chemistry and toxicology to explore two general areas of environmental chemistry: the identification of new environmental genotoxins (that is, chemicals that cause genetic mutations and may lead to tumour formation in higher organisms) and the development of new source apportionment methods to identify sources of contaminants.

The overall theme of the research is the development of general methods that are applicable to a range of complex environmental mixtures, such as air particulate, sediments, and biota.
