Teaching Winery and Vineyards

The Vineyards of the Teaching Winery

About our Wine Programs

In 2000, we established our Winery and Viticulture Technician program at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus. This program was the first of its kind in Canada. The on-campus Teaching Winery and Vineyards allow students hands-on knowledge of the wine making process – from grape to barrel!

In the Fall of 2008, Niagara College opened its doors to a post-graduate certificate program in Wine Business Management, the first and only Wine Business program in Canada. This intense program uses college science labs, a wine sensory lab, the vineyards, on-site wine equipment, and our on-campus Teaching Winery Store, and gives graduates a well-rounded business education and the specialized practical training required for future growth in the Canadian wine, hospitality and tourism industries.

About the Teaching Winery

Teaching Winery logo

The Niagara College Teaching Winery is located at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus, part of the Niagara Peninsula wine region, which spans a 30 mile plain. The growing season sunshine is comparable to the Languedoc-Rousillon in France, south of both Burgundy and Bordeaux, or Tuscany, Italy.

Nestled along Ontario’s Niagara escarpment – a United Nations world biosphere preserve – the Niagara Peninsula appellation, St. David’s Bench sub-appellation, provides the perfect ‘terroir ‘; a combination of soil, climate and topography, affecting the flavour and characteristics our award winning VQA wines.
