Continuing Education Online Learning

After Registering / How to Get Started

  1. Go to www.ontariolearn.com and click "Login" to enter the OntarioLearn ePortal Site.
  2. Review the Username and Password links on the left side of the ePortal Site to determine your login information.
  3. Enter your username and password and click "Start a Session"
  4. Locate your course on the provided list. This will take you to your course login. Click the "login" button.
  5. Review all "Start Up" announcements once you have successfully logged in to the OntarioLearn ePortal Site.
  6. To access your course(s), click on the course title to connect to the course platform. A new browser window will open and you will be required to re-enter your username and password (it is the same username and password as #2 above).
  7. Please Note:
    If your course is to be delivered on the FirstClass platform you will be required to download and install the FirstClass software before you can log in. Select the "FirstClass download" link and follow the instructions. You are only required to download and install the software once.
  8. If your course is to be delivered on the Blackboard platform, you must update the "Personal Information" section to include your email address. Failure to do this means the instructor has no way of contacting you.

    To update the Blackboard system with your personal email address:

    1. Login to the Blackboard system.
    2. Click on "Personal Information" + "Edit Personal Information"
    3. In the "email" field, delete "ontario_learn@embanet.com" and enter YOUR personal email address.
    4. Check to make sure that the information you have entered is correct.
    5. At the bottom of the screen, click "Submit."
    6. If you encounter any difficulties, please review the Frequently Asked Questions area for troubleshooting tips or contact the Embanet 24/7 Technical Support Help Desk. Click here to display (in a separate window) a list of all on-line courses with their associated platforms.
  9. Textbooks: Most textbooks should be ordered through textnet.ca

For the following courses:
(both Level I and Level II courses)

  • Excel
  • Fire Ground Operations
  • Measurement and Evaluation
  • PowerPoint
  • Word

Please follow this link to the Niagara Blackboard system to find out your username and password, as well as, access the login page for your course.

Important:
You will need your student number to access. If you do not have this information you will need to come into the college to retrieve it at the Registrar's Office or check on other correspondence you may have received from the college.

Software Requirements
Some courses may require you to have access to certain software packages. Please view the course listing for the current term to determine if your course requires the software.

If after 2 business days of registering (and after the official start date), you are having technical difficulties accessing your course, please contact:

  • Embanet's 24 hour support desk (FirstClass, OL Blackboard, WebCT) at 1-800-695-5008.
  • For Niagara College Blackboard users, please use the Niagara College Blackboard Support for help.

Examinations
You may register for your exam by visiting the Exam link on the left to this page. For more information, contact Jayme Riediger at ext. 7606.

Note: Not all courses have written exams at the end of the term.

Withdrawing From Your Course / Obtaining a Refund

Example:
You may withdraw from a course that begins on Jan. 15, 2010 and receive a refund if you contact our registrar's office by 4:00 p.m., Jan. 29, 2010

NO REFUNDS will be processed after this day. A $20 administration charge will apply.
