Description

This course is designed to thoroughly examine the importance of professional and ethical guidelines in counselling, with a focus on their application to addictions, substance abuse problems and the families that are affected. The student will become familiar with the essential framework for establishing professionalism and ethics for counselling various addictions and substance abuse clients, as well as examine their importance in the counsellor-client relationship. Current issues will also be discussed including: professional development; performing assessments and individualized treatment planning; and current issues of mandatory drug testing, police R.I.D.E. programs, and rising service costs.
