Course Title: Exceptionalities I - Including Non Violent Crisis InterventionView Course Outline

You will familiarize yourself with the categories of exceptionality currently recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education. You will clarify misconceptions, identify common characteristics and implications for individuals assigned the various categories/labels as well as recommend supportive strategies. In addition, you will practice effective crisis intervention skills applied in various educational and human services settings. Methods of verbal and physical intervention which maintain the least restrictive environment and which promote the best possible care and welfare, safety and security of all persons will be stressed. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification from Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) will be issued for those meeting the requirements.
