The NC Difference

  • Students receive up to 320 hours of hands-on field experience
  • Students practice writing, editing and layout through field placements and production of Niagara News for print and online. Niagara News is the community paper of Niagara College Canada. It is written and produced by the students of the Journalism program.

Admission Requirements

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, including the following required courses:

  • English - any Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent.

Recommended Courses and/or Recommended Skills (Not Required for Admission):

  • Communications Technology - Grade 11 or 12 (M).
  • Media Arts - Grade 11 or 12 (O).
  • Visual Arts - Grade 11 or 12 (M) or (O).

Selection and Ranking Process:

  • For competitive programs (the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of available places), selection will be based on the highest senior level final grade available at the time of ranking. Mid-term grades are not used for ranking purposes.
  • Testing or other supplemental evaluation may be required.

Transportation:

Students are responsible for their own transportation in order to complete field placement requirements. Niagara cannot guarantee placements that are readily accessible by public transportation. Students are responsible for all costs connected with such transportation.

Future Study Options

Niagara College offers post graduate certificate options in several study areas to qualified College and University graduates. These certificates can add to your existing credentials and prepare you for the world of work. Qualified graduates may be able to apply some academic credits towards further study.

Additional agreements are in place with Davenport University, University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), Griffith University, Athabasca University, University of Guelph-Humber and Wilfrid Laurier University-Brantford.

January Start Students

Students who begin the program in January 2013 complete Term 2 of the program during the Spring Term beginning in May 2013 and running into summer months.
