Career Opportunities

Radio, television and film are exciting, dynamic fields with endless opportunities for employment and creative expression.

Graduates of this program find employment:

  • "On Air" as announcers, reporters, videographers, news and sports anchors, and hosts/interviewers
  • Behind the scenes as producers, directors, writers, camera operators, cinematographers, technical directors, sound recordists and editors

The NC Difference

  • Students use 16mm and 35mm motion picture film cameras, Red HD, studio, high definition and ENG/EFP TV cameras, non-linear editing systems and digital audio recording and production equipment
  • Unique facilities include a sound mixing theatre, automated radio on-air production and mobile TV production truck
  • Students broadcast daily on the web and radio station 90.1 FM CRNC
  • Presentation and TV students broadcast and webcast a live, weekly TV magazine show
  • Film students shoot documentaries throughout North America, produce dramas with professional actors and shoot music videos for local bands
  • Students complete up to 640 hours of field placement
  • In-house awards recognize student achievement
  • All major film projects are edited and mastered in high definition

Inside Niagara Weekly News Magazine Show

Inside Niagara is a regional news magazine program produced (10 episodes per year) by the second year Niagara College broadcasting students and seen on TV Cogeco.

From Grimsby to Fort Erie, each episode of Inside Niagara takes viewers on an exciting ride thru the Niagara Region. Each show includes regional News, Sports and Entertainment. Weekly features take the viewer to interesting places and introduce them to some of the regions most interesting places.

Niagara College Campus Radio - The Heat 90.1 FM

CRNC is the FM radio station for Niagara College. Located at the Welland Campus on Woodlawn Road, CRNC transmits its signal at 90.1 FM twenty-four hours daily and covers a listening area of approximately 300 square kilometres.Campus Radio

During the regular academic terms students produce and broadcast regular news updates, special events coverage, music and specialty programs.

Students are also in charge of the day-to-day operations of the station, from programming and promotions to music and sales.

Admission Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, including the following required courses:
    • English - any Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent, (minimum 60%).

Additional Requirements for Admission:

  • Applicants are required to attend a scheduled Information and TESTING session. Applicants will receive detailed instructions on preparing for this session. Completion is necessary for admission consideration.

Recommended Courses and/or Recommended Skills (Not Required for Admission):

  • Photography, audio/video production, multimedia, drama, art, creative writing, and mathematics.

Selection and Ranking Process:

  • For competitive programs with more applicants than available spaces, selection will be based on the highest senior level final grade available at the time of ranking. Mid-term grades are not used for ranking purposes.
  • Grade 12 English and TESTING results will be weighted and ranked.

Note:

  • Secondary School grades from co-op courses and half credit courses are not considered.

Transportation

  • Students are responsible for their own transportationin order to complete field projects and work placementrequirements. Niagara cannot guarantee placementsthat are readily accessible by public transportation.Students are responsible for all costs connected withsuch transportation.

Educational Pathways

Niagara College has articulated agreements providing students with degree completion and credit transfer opportunities with many other colleges and universities.
