Mechanical engineering technicians may work independently or provide technical support and services in the development, maintenance and testing of machines, components, tools and manufacturing plants and equipment.

Laptop Lease Program

  • Personal dedicated laptop computer
  • Student provided with current application software
  • Laptop learning environment prepares the student with technical skills required in the rapidly changing technology industries

Admission Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, including the following required courses:
    • English - any Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent.
    • Mathematics - any Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent.

Recommended Courses and/or Recommended Skills (Not Required for Admission):

  • Physics - Grade 11 (U) or Grade 12 (C) or (U).
  • Manufacturing Engineering Technology - Grade 11 or 12 (C) or (E).
  • Technological Design - Grade 11 or 12 (M).

Selection and Ranking Process:

  • For competitive programs (the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of available places), selection will be based on the highest senior level final grade available at the time of ranking. Mid-term grades are not used for ranking purposes.
  • Testing or other supplemental evaluation may be required.

Note:

Secondary School grades from co-op courses and half credit courses are not considered.

Mandatory Laptop Lease Program:

  • Personally dedicated laptop computers are an integral part of our computer-integrated curriculum. All students are required to lease a high-end laptop computer from the college. By leasing the laptop computer, the student is provided with continuous access to state-of-the-art application software packages that could not be made available through traditional computer laboratories or through student-owned computers.
  • The laptop configurations will include the MS-Windows operating system and networking software for connection to the College network system. Application software provided by the College includes Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical and MCL II Robot-Programming. Several other application programs will be provided by the College as required throughout the program. Students will be required to purchase some additional software.

January Start Students

Students who begin the program in January 2013 complete Term 2 of the program during the Spring Term beginning in May 2013 and running into summer months.
