AJAC has hired event management students from Niagara College for the past five years. Their role is to assist AJAC organize its annual Canadian Car of the Year Awards "TestFest". "TestFest" is an automotive industry and media event that brings ALL car manufacturers in Canada together with the majority of Canadian automotive media for a four-day test-drive of over 150 new model vehicles at the Niagara district airport. ...

The car manufacturers have often hired the event assistants for public relations and marketing positions within their respective companies as a result of interacting with the students at TestFest.

2012 Student Events

Students of the Event Management program organize yearly fundraisers to support annual The Many Hands Project, which is also administrated by Niagara College Event Management Students. Please find a list of this year's projects below:

  • The Many Hands Project -

    Many Hands is a community-driven project organized by Niagara College students as part of the Event Management Graduate Certificate program together with Construction Studies students, who complete the renovations prior to the 'unveiling day'.

    The Many Hands Committee, composed of Event Management students, plans all aspects of the project, including the selection process in choosing the recipient, obtaining sponsors, and volunteer recruitment and coordination. Students assist a not-for-profit organization by enhancing, improving and renovating their facility.

  • Ladies in Luxe -

    Ladies in LUXE is a special cocktail event for women to relax with girlfriends while feeling pampered and prestigious. It’s an excuse for women to take out that little black dress from the back of their closets and spend a night out in a lavish atmosphere. This cocktail party will feature VIP amenities such as beauty boosts, hair demonstrations, and mini-manicures all night long. The night will include a silent auction and vendor booths selling luxurious products such as jewelry, cosmetics and more. The event will also have professional photographers and entertainment that women are sure to love. This will be the ultimate ladies night where every woman will be able to let their inner diva out. Located at Stella’s, in St. Catharines and held March 23, 2012, Ladies in LUXE will be a night for women to remember. For more information call (905)-641-2252, extension 6408.

  • Many Hands Winter Classic -

    The Many Hands Winter Classic is a charity Ball Hockey Tournament and after party being held on March 10, 2012. This tournament will take place at Ball Hockey International, 1944 Welland Canals Parkway, St. Catharines, with the after party held at Celtics Pub, 18 Secord Dr St. Catharines. This tournament has both recreational and competitive tournaments and provides participants with a hands on opportunity to learn and improve their ball hockey skills or to just have fun enjoying the sport they love with friends. This event focuses on good sportsmanship and the importance of teamwork. Participants can register as a team of 6 to 9, and expect to play a minimum of 3 games throughout the day. Included in the registration cost, participants will be treated to a lunch, dinner and awards ceremony. There will also be the opportunity for participants and spectators to participant in a variety of mini sports related activities and a chance to win a variety of raffle prizes. Individuals that do not wish to participate in the tournament can still attend the tournament as a spectator for free and purchase a ticket to attend the after party.   • Dublin Dash 5k -

    Dublin 5k Dash Date: March 17, 2012. The Dublin Dash 5k Fun Run and Walk will take place on March 17, 2012. This is a St. Patrick’s Day themed event that includes a race and post race celebration. The race location is from the College, up Taylor Rd into Woodend Park and back. The post race celebration will be held at Niagara College Niagara-on-the-Lake campus. The race will take place at 11:00 a.m. and be a prediction run (all runners guess their time beforehand, no watches are allowed, and the top closest guesses win prizes). The post race celebration will run until approximately 2:00 p.m. and will include live entertainment, food and beverage, prizes for first male, first female, best fundraiser, best costume and top closest predictions, as well as a silent auction with winter and sports related items.   • Chef'd -

    Chef’d is a culinary themed fundraising event helping to support The Many Hands Project and its recipient: St. John Ambulance. The primary goal is to raise $3000 for The Many Hands Project. Chef’d will take place March 25, 2012 at the Niagara College Culinary Theatre and Benchmark Restaurant from 5pm to 9pm. Chef’d will feature a black box cook off competition between Executive Chef at Commisso's Anthony Greco and our Mystery Chef! Guests will have the opportunity to delight their taste buds with a three course meal professionally prepared by one of two locally known chefs pairing off in a head to head cooking battle! Chef’d will also showcase numerous interactive components that attendees can enjoy including the black box cook off, an educational mixology presentation with industry professional Jeremy Parsons, and a alluring silent auction collection available for bidding. Chef’d attendees can socialize, eat, bid, and help judge the winning chef in this heated culinary showdown!

  • Shoot for the Stars Celebration -

    Each year Niagara College hosts a celebration to honor the Canadian Food and Wine Institute and the Hospitality, Tourism and Administration program. This year the event will be held on Thursday March 29, 2012 and the theme of the celebration will be “Shoot for the Stars”; a theme we dedicate to the inspirational award-winning students of Niagara College. This is a special evening created to acknowledge and give thanks to the generous donors of the Niagara College Foundation; as well as to recognize the student award recipients of these programs. The cocktail reception will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Benchmark Restaurant located at Niagara College’s Niagara-on-the-Lake campus. During the cocktail reception, students will have the opportunity to network and connect with the guests; many of whom are professionals who are looking to recruit in the hospitality industry. The awards ceremony will commence at 6:30 p.m. in Niagara College’s Culinary Theatre. Following the ceremony, students will have the opportunity to celebrate in Benchmark with their families as they indulge in a delicious menu prepared by Benchmark and enjoy Niagara College’s own wine and beer.

Admission Requirements

  • Ontario College Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree OR an acceptable combination of related work experience and post secondary education (as determined by the College), PLUS
  • Resume detailing education, work experience, volunteer activities,skills (including computer skills),certifications and interests, AND a cover letter summarizing suitability for the program and providing career objectives AND
  • Proof of English proficiency

Recommended Courses and/or Recommended Skills (Not Required for Admission):

  • Applicants should be computer literate in a Windows PC environment.

Graduate Certificate Bursary

A $750 bursary is available to eligible students who are enrolled full-time in a Graduate Certificate Program.

When applying for the bursary, you must complete a basic application form detailing your current financial status.
