Career Opportunities

The graduates of this program will have the skills necessary to combine hardware, software and network technology in a manner that will leverage information technology to improve business operations.

This includes the selection and integration of computer hardware and software (both proprietary and open source), the design, installation, administration, securing, troubleshooting and repair of computer and network systems, virtual machines, databases and web sites.

Such diverse talents open many fields of employment for the graduate such as:

  • Network management
  • I.T. security administration
  • Email systems administration and support
  • PC Technician - hardware/software
  • Technical sales and support
  • Help desk support services
  • I.T. consulting
  • Entrepreneurial self-employment

The NC Difference

  • Course content provides the opportunity to work towards industry certifications such as : Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), CompTIA A+ and Network+ and EMC Information Storage Management (ISM)
  • Students learn to provide support for databases and websites as well as a variety of computer hardware, operating systems, application software and network architectures
  • The CST lab has dedicated high speed Internet access and provides student access to wired, wireless and fiber optic media for lab work
  • Niagara College is located in the heart of the Niagara Region providing clean and safe communities, affordable housing, and easy access to major centres such as Hamilton, Toronto, and the U.S. border

Admission Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, including the following required courses:
    • English - any Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent.
    • Mathematics - any Grade 11 (U) or (M), or Grade 12 (C) or (U) or equivalent.

Selection and Ranking Process:

  • For competitive programs (the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of available places), selection will be based on the highest senior level final grade available at the time of ranking. Mid-term grades are not used for ranking purposes.
  • Testing or other supplemental evaluation may be required.

Note:

  • Secondary School grades from co-op courses and half credit courses are not considered.

Educational Pathways

Niagara College has articulated agreements providing students with degree completion and credit transfer opportunities with many other colleges and universities.
