Graduates of this program may find employment in many fields related to the Computer Industry.

The program has been designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in hardware troubleshooting for the following areas: Computer Systems Support, Electronics, Digital, Microprocessor Technology and Data Communications.

Graduates may also find work in technical call centers as help desk representatives.

By studying and learning hands-on these various technologies, our graduates build the skills and confidence necessary to begin their careers in related fields at entry level positions.

Graduates of this program may seek employment in the following types of positions:

  • PC Technicians - hardware/software
  • Embedded system support
  • Customer service representative
  • Technical sales & support representative
  • Technical support analyst
  • Computer user support
  • Systems testing technician
  • Data communications support
  • Technical call center analyst
  • Help desk technicians - hardware/software

Many of these positions exist in government, commercial, industrial and retail settings.

Admission Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, including the following required courses:
    • English - any Grade 12 (C), (U), or equivalent
    • Mathematics - any Grade 12 (C) or (U), or equivalent

Recommended Courses and/or Recommended Skills  (Not Required for Admission):

  • Physics - Grade 11 (U) or Grade 12 (C) or (U)

Selection and Ranking Process:

  • For competitive programs (the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of available places), selection will be based on the highest senior level final grade available at the time of ranking. Mid-term grades are not used for ranking purposes.
  • Testing or other supplemental evaluation may be required.

Note:

  • Secondary School grades from co-op courses and half credit courses are not considered.

Educational Pathways

Niagara College has articulated agreements providing students with degree completion and credit transfer opportunities with many other colleges and universities.
