Program Status

This Apprenticeship Program begins in September in each year. There is no Winter intake.

Note: Applicants do not apply to Niagara College via Ontario Colleges.

Career Opportunities

Hairstyling requires artistic flair, a willingness to work long hours and an enjoyment of people. This program will teach you everything from health and safety considerations to the latest hairstyling techniques.

Upon completion of your hairstylist apprenticeship, you can seek provincial certification and offer the following services as a hair salon employee:

  • Colours and tints
  • Cosmetology sales
  • Cuts and styles
  • Permanent waves

Some apprentices go on to own and operate their own hair salons.

  • 18th Annual Provincial Technological Skills Competition 2007
    • Kathy Luu - (Gold Medal) Member of Team Ontario at the National Competition held in Saskatoon
  • 17 Annual Provincial Technological Skills Competition 2006
    • Cassandra Scutti - (Gold Medal)
    • Erin Wright - (Silver Medal) & Member of Team Ontario at the National Competition held in Halifax
  • 16 Annual Provincial Technological Skills Competition 2005
    • Zina Shamoun - (Silver Medal)
    • Meaghan de Melo - (Bronze Medal)
  • 15th Annual Provincial Technological Skills Competition 2004
    • Stefinia Fortino - (Silver Medal)

Hazel Aperocho won the gold medal at the Ontario Skills Competition and competed in the national finals in Vancouver, B.C. winning the bronze medal.


Admission Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or Grade 12 equivalency, AND
  • employment in the trade.

Educational Pathways

Niagara College has articulated agreements providing students with degree completion and credit transfer opportunities with many other colleges and universities.
