There are currently nearly 13,000 unfilled positions in the sector and about 37% of these are service technician positions. Overall, 29% of Canada's Motive power Repair and Service (MPRS) employers have one or more unfilled positions.

This Apprenticeship Program begins in September in each year. There is no Winter intake.

Career Opportunities

Automotive Service Technicians experience a wide variety of tasks on any given day. Skills such as mechanical diagnostics, cost estimations, and customer relations are utilized in addition to servicing a wide range of vehicles. Today, with complex on-board computers in automobiles and computerized diagnostic equipment in use, technicians are challenged with a continually changing environment.

An apprenticeship can jump-start your career! Upon completion of this program, you may seek provincial certification, a mandatory requirement for employment in this trade. Potential jobs include:

  • Automotive service technician
  • Automotive appraiser
  • Parts manager
  • Service manager
  • Automotive mechanical installer and servicer
  • Light-duty service technician
  • Motor vehicle inspector and tester

Admission Requirements:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or Grade 12 equivalency, AND
  • Employment in the trade
