Earn while you learn! Skilled trades at Niagara College offer a variety of interest options and many programs offer flexible hours. There is and will continue to be a demand for highly qualified, highly skilled tradespeople within the construction, industrial, motive power and service sectors. Niagara College is dedicated to providing state of the art facilities and equipment, thorough instruction by experienced teachers and industry professionals to meet and surpass this demand.

Niagara College is a training delivery agent for a number of apprenticeship programs for the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU), including red seal certification apprenticeship programs.

Pre-Apprenticeships

Pre-apprenticeship programs are offered on a year to year basis upon funding approval by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). Successful applicants are required to undergo a selection criteria as outlined by the MTCU.

Graduates of our pre-apprenticeship programs will receive an Ontario College Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate of Achievement, Level 1 in-school apprenticeship component and a work term experience (practical experience with a regional employer).

Co-Op Apprenticeships

The Co-Op apprenticeship program rolls two major achievements into one: earning your Ontario College diploma AND completing Levels 1, 2 and 3 in-school training of your apprenticeship training—earning a Certificate of Qualification.

Individuals must meet all eligibility criteria for the college diploma programs as well as the apprenticeship training. Applying for these programs must be done directly through Niagara College. Niagara College works with employer sponsored groups to register apprentices and assists with co-op work terms.

How do I get a Certificate of Qualification?

For trainees and apprentices seeking to prepare for their Certificate of Qualification examination in the Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) trade; Niagara College offers PNHY1034 through Continuing Education.

Visit their website for the next course offering. Your local union will also be able to assist with other provincial/red seal certification examinations.
