Pharmacy Technician Bridging Education Program

The Pharmacy Technician Bridging Education Program has been designed to assist pharmacy technicians currently working in the profession to meet new regulatory requirements and expanded practice capabilities within the Health Systems Improvement Act, 2007.

The Registration Regulation requirements for pharmacy technicians who currently work in the profession and who wish to pursue OCP registration are to successfully complete the approved Bridging program and entry to practice examination delivered by the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC).

Pharmacy Technicians will be required to provide documented evidence of having completed in full the Bridging program, as approved by OCP Council to meet the requirements for registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) and to practice in the new and expanded role.

Program of Studies

The Bridging Program includes the following four courses which will be delivered by a CCAPP accredited college. In addition, the program includes a Structured Training Evaluation which will be completed in the workplace and managed by OCP.

Admission Requirements

Successful completion of the OCP certification examination or PEBC national evaluating examination is required prior to start of Bridging program. Courses can be taken in any sequence. However, the Structured Training Evaluation (managed by OCP) can not be completed prior to the Management of Drug Distribution for Pharmacy Technician Bridging.
