About This Certificate

Small Engines are a vital part of our daily lives. There are millions of them in use every day. This certificate has been designed to address the growing need for knowledgeable small engine repair technicians.

Successful completion of the four required courses prepares you to write three of the Outdoor Power Equipment And Engine Service Association (OPEESA) certification examinations for: Two-Stroke Cycle engines; Four-Stroke Cycle engines and Small Engine Electrical Systems.

Through a balanced approach of theory, demonstration and practical application you will gain the knowledge and skills to be able to maintain, troubleshoot and perform repairs on Two-Stroke Cycle and Four-Stroke Cycle small engines.

Program Delivery

Individual courses are open to all students whether or not they are working toward the certificate.

Prerequisites may be required for these courses. Please refer to individual course descriptions for specific requirements.

Important Notes

This certificate prepares the learners to write three of the Outdoor Power Equipment And Engine Service Association (OPEESA) certification examinations: Two-Stroke Cycle engines; Four-Stroke Cycle engines and Small Engine Electrical Systems.

Exams for these certifications are not included in the course costs and require additional minimal fees.

Certificate Benefits

Increasing, manufacturers require certified technicians as part of their preferred dealer programs. Certification is a highly respected credential and can make the difference when it comes to choosing the right person for the job.

Graduates of our certificate program will become eligible to become certified and recognized nationally by the Outdoor Power Equipment And Engine Service Association, OPEESA. Their membership includes more than 140 distributors and manufacturers of outdoor power equipment and air-cooled gas and diesel engines.

Obtaining Your Certificate (Application for Graduation)

Upon completion of all requirements, the student must complete an “Application For Graduation” form available from the Registrar’s Office.

If the student wishes to have their certificate presented to them at convocation ceremony in the Fall, there is a $25 fee.

Application, accompanied by fee (if applicable) must be forwarded to Registration and Records, Office of the Registrar before the application deadline.
