About This Certificate

This program is designed primarily for the person with little or no previous experience. The focus is on the development of strong office support skills with emphasis on interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

Graduates of the program will be prepared for standard operational procedures that are required for the smooth operation of a medical office.

Program Delivery

Individual courses are open to all students whether or not they are working toward the certificate.

Prerequisites may be required for these courses. Please refer to individual course descriptions for specific requirements.

Important Notes

New course numbers have been assigned to the following courses:

  • ADMN1003 (Medical OHIP Billing) is now ADMN1400
  • ADMN1154 (Medical Office Terminology) is now ADMN1407
  • NURS1400 (Working and Communicating in a Medical Setting) is now HLTH1521
  • ADMN1077 (Understanding Medical Tests for Medical Office Staff) is now ADMN1406

The following course has been removed from the certificate and replaced:

  • COMP1420 (Excel - Level 1) is replaced by COMP1978 (Excel - Specialist)

Note - The above courses will be accepted toward completion of this certificate program.

This certificate prepares you for exciting work as a member of a healthcare team. Graduates may work in physician’s offices, dental offices, hospitals, long-term-care facilities, retirement homes, chiropractor’s offices and complementary health care offices.

Certificate Benefits

The up-to-date curriculum includes training in rapidly changing technological skills such as software applications and in all aspects of standard operational procedures utilized in the modern medical office or clinic.

Obtaining Your Certificate (Application for Graduation)

Upon completion of all requirements, the student must complete an “Application For Graduation” form available from the Registrar’s Office.

If the student wishes to have their certificate presented to them at convocation ceremony in the Fall, there is a $25 fee.

Application, accompanied by fee (if applicable) must be forwarded to Registration and Records, Office of the Registrar before the application deadline.
