About This Certificate

Once you have secured your level I certificate in French as a Second Language, take this opportunity to proceed to a more sophisticated stage of bilingualism with the focus on a greater complexity of French grammar, as well as enhanced communication skills – both conversational and written.

When attained, this Advanced level of certification in French as a Second Language will have secured for you a command of the French language, and will allow you to be formally recognized as bilingual for graduate school, career or personal purposes.

Program Delivery

Individual courses are open to all students whether or not they are working toward the certificate.

Prerequisites may be required for these courses. Please refer to individual course descriptions for specific requirements.

Career Opportunities

This certificate prepares individuals for business or career applications whereby fluency in French language skills, both written and oral, is required in workplace settings or in business-related travel.

Possible career paths include:

  • Business or professional careers requiring a command of the French language
  • Teacher’s College and other university degree programs (i.e. for 2nd language credit requirements)
  • Opportunities supporting any professional, personal or political aspirations involving French – speaking Canada or international destinations

Obtaining Your Certificate (Application for Graduation)

Upon completion of all requirements, the student must complete an “Application For Graduation” form available from the Registrar’s Office.

If the student wishes to have their certificate presented to them at convocation ceremony in the Fall, there is a $25 fee.

Application, accompanied by fee (if applicable) must be forwarded to Registration and Records, Office of the Registrar before the application deadline.
