About This Certificate

This certificate program has been developed with the support and co-operation of health care facilities to prepare individuals for employment in food service in a health care setting. You will acquire knowledge and skills that will enable you to become a valuable member of the dietary team.

The mandatory MOHLTC Standards for Dietary Services are incorporated throughout the program.

Program Delivery

The courses in this certificate are offered online. Please refer to individual course details pages for availability.

Individual courses are open to all students whether or not they are working toward the certificate.

Prerequisites may be required for these courses. Please refer to individual course descriptions for specific requirements.

Important Notes

New course numbers have been assigned to the following courses:

  • CULN1500 (Quantity Food Preparation) is now CULN1502 
  • NUTN1014 (Introduction to Nutrition) is now NUTN1019

Note - The above courses will be accepted toward completion of this certificate program.

Career Opportunities

This certificate prepares you to work in the dietary departments of hospitals, long-term-care facilities, retirement homes, group homes, and other healthcare settings. The current MOHLTC Standards for Dietary Services are incorporated throughout all of the courses in the program.

Possible career paths include:

  • Dietary Food Service Worker

  • Working for a community healthcare agency in a client’s home

Certificate Benefits

This certificate is mandated by the Ontario government and you must complete it if you wish to gain employment in the dietary departments of hospitals, long-term-care facilities, retirement homes, group homes, and other health care settings.

Both graduates and their healthcare employers will benefit from a standardized and recognized program.

Obtaining Your Certificate (Application for Graduation)

Upon completion of all requirements, the student must complete an “Application For Graduation” form available from the Registrar’s Office.

If the student wishes to have their certificate presented to them at convocation ceremony in the Fall, there is a $25 fee.

Application, accompanied by fee (if applicable) must be forwarded to Registration and Records, Office of the Registrar before the application deadline.
