Continuing Education Motorcycle Training

Niagara is pleased to offer a variety of courses for both the new motorcyclist and for those with various levels of experience.
Using the Canada Safety Council's (CSC) "Gearing Up" Curriculum, Niagara College has conducted our "Basic Rider" training course since 1983.
We are proud that our qualified instructors have trained more than 7,000 students, both novice and experienced riders.
Niagara College gratefully acknowledges the following dealers for their continued, loyal support and contribution of motorcycles to the College's Motorcycle Training Programs:

All motorcycle courses are held at the Welland Campus of Niagara College, located at 300 Woodlawn Rd., Welland, Ontario.
Students (for Basic Rider and M2 Exit Courses) meet up in Lundy Building Room L1 or L3 (see confirmation of enrolment for details).
Students (for Motorcycle Retest and Introduction to Motorcycling) meet up in Parking Lot D off Chippawayan Boulevard (beside the YMCA Parking Lot).

Please call the Registrar's Office for Transfers, Withdrawals and Refunds

Withdrawals must be made 5 working days before the course starts to receive a refund, less $20 administration fee.

Transfers must be requested 5 working days prior to the start date of the course that you are transferring from. You may only make this request once and it is based on seat availability.

Students who leave the course before its completion due to illness must provide a bona fide reason or proof of illness (doctor’s note) to be considered for rescheduling, which will depend on seat availability.
Special Note - Starting Classes on Time!
Out of respect for students who arrive on time, classes start promptly at the times indicated. If you arrive more than fifteen minutes after the specified time, you will not be permitted to take the course. A refund will not be issued.

Motorcycle - Basic Rider Training
(GENI 1120 C)
Using the Canada Safety Council's 'Gearing Up' curriculum, this course is designed to teach you how to ride a motorcycle with confidence. Whether you are an experienced rider or just starting up, you will be assisted through skill development from basic to advanced levels. When you successfully complete the Ministry “M2” test (done on-site), you will receive a CSC certificate that your insurance agent may want and the upgrade documentation for your M2 licence. Our fleet is comprised of motorcycles that range from 150 cc to 225 cc.
Requirements - You Must Bring:

a valid 'M1' licence to the first class

a D.O.T. approved helmet in good condition
-
heavy, long sleeved jacket (non-synthetic)
-
denim jeans or heavy pants
-
full-fingered gloves that cover the entire hand
-
heavy-duty leather boots that have a heel and cover the ankle (high top running shoes or jogging boots are not acceptable)

Motorcycle - M2 Exit
(GENI 1155 C)
This course is designed for the experienced street motorcyclist who has had their licence for a minimum of 22 months (or 18 months if successfully completed a recognized motorcycle training program) and wants to obtain their full 'M' licence.
It includes an extensive classroom session, 4 hours of riding experience on highways, and in residential and business areas. Advanced skills including; roadside stops, lane changing, curves and intersections will prepare you for the road test.
Our instructors find value in riding in smaller groups; on Friday evening, you will be divided into two groups of five and assigned either Saturday or Sunday to do your riding and testing.
Requirements - You Must Bring:

your licence, ownership and proof of insurance on Friday night
-
a properly licenced and insured street legal motorcycle on Saturday or Sunday. You may also bring a bike that is loaned from a friend or a rental.

a D.O.T. approved helmet in good condition
-
heavy, long sleeved jacket (non-synthetic)
-
denim jeans or heavy pants
-
full-fingered gloves that cover the entire hand
-
heavy-duty leather boots that have a heel and cover the ankle (high top running shoes or jogging boots are not acceptable)
Special Note:
Motorcycles must be mechanically sound. If breakdown occurs, rescheduling or refunds will not be permitted.

Motorcycle - Introduction to Motorcycling
(SMNR 1499 C)
If you are considering riding a motorcycle and you want to try before you buy, or interested in getting a glimpse of what all the excitement is about, then this session is for you.
Also, if you are planning on taking our Basic Rider Training course (GENI 1120) and want to take advantage of some extra time to learn the fundamentals, our experienced instructors will get you on the bike.
Learn how to properly balance and stop it, change gears and safely move it forward at a very controlled pace. This introductory course is a great opportunity to experience the joy of motorcycling in a relaxed and secure environment.

Motorcycle - Retest

This session is for those students who have attended our Motorcycle Safety Program within the last year and wish to perform their M1 Exit test again.
