About This Certificate

Legal support professions require a solid grounding in legal basics, a high degree of attention to detail, and the capacity to perform well in a demanding work environment.

Offered in co-operation with the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO), this program is unique because students who receive the highest rank in each of the courses as well as, those who achieve an honor standing in all four areas: Real Estate, Litigation, Estates and Corporate law, are recognized by the ILCO for their achievements.


Program Delivery

Individual courses are open to all students whether or not they are working toward the certificate.

Prerequisites may be required for these courses. Please refer to individual course descriptions for specific requirements.

Important Information

Institute of Law Clerks exams may be written after the completion of each course. There is an additional fee to write each examination.

The program is intended for those with a minimum of Grade 12 and experience in the legal field.

The In Class courses LAWS1025, LAWS1027, LAWS1028 or LAWS1031 will no longer be offered as part of this certificate. However, those students who have taken these courses may still apply them toward the certificate requirements.

Career Opportunities

This certificate prepares graduates for the challenges of law clerk positions within legal offices and government offices, and law offices of corporations.


Obtaining Your Certificate (Graduation)

Upon completion of all requirements, the student must complete an “application to graduate” form available from the Registrar’s Office. Students will be required to pay a $25 fee to attend the convocation ceremony in the fall.

The fee is payable with the “application to graduate” form. Applications and fees are to be returned to the Registrar’s Office. For more information, contact the Registrar’s Office.
