Campus redevelopment update July 2016

With summer in full swing, several campus redevelopment activities are heating up at Niagara College.

NC’s Campus Redevelopment project launched last year when the College broke ground on the new Walker Advanced Manufacturing Centre at the Welland Campus – which is now complete – and the CFWI expansion at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus – currently underway. Scheduled for completion by winter 2018, the project aims at positioning the College for the future by significantly improving student services and the campus experience.

Here are some of the latest updates across our campuses as NC’s Campus Redevelopment project continues to takes shape.

Welland Campus

Foundations are currently being constructed and renovations have kicked off for a new Academic Fitness Lab. The academic fitness lab will be part of a 13,000-square-foot academic training addition on the north side of the existing Athletic Centre.

The relocation of counselling and health services is also underway, which will bring health and wellness services for students together at the same location when the project is completed this September.

This marks the first phase of renovations which will eventually culminate in a new Learning Commons and library featuring enhanced learning support services at the heart of the Welland Campus.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus

This September, classes will take place in the Canadian Food and Wine Institute’s new lab facilities for baking and chocolate. The one-storey, 13,500-square-foot expansion to the CFWI, which kicked off last October, will also feature central stores and food and beverage sensory tasting labs. It is scheduled for completion in January 2017.

Enhancements to the cafeteria and student commons which began in June, are scheduled to be completed by September, along with the renovation of administrative services. New spaces will include a relocated info centre, combined health and wellness services, new test centre facilities, and a student-friendly registration and finance services area.

Niagara Falls Campus

As the College invests more than $50 million in redevelopment projects at the Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake campuses – which will significantly modernize our learning environments and enhance our students’ experience – the Hairstyling program and its employees will have a new home at the Welland Campus as planned, effective September 2017. In addition, the Hospitality and Tourism Management, and International Business Management graduate certificate programs, as well as its employees operating at Niagara Falls, will move to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus in September 2017.

Remaining in Niagara Falls will be the College’s International Partnerships and Business Development teams, as well as the Job Centre.

It’s important to acknowledge how the hard work and dedication of the faculty and staff in Niagara Falls have contributed to an exceptional atmosphere and experience for our students.

The team at the Niagara Falls Campus will continue to support and engage our students until these academic programs relocate to the Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake campuses.
