Niagara College to welcome new students Jan. 6

Niagara College will be a flurry of activity on Friday, January 6 as Niagara College welcomes new students at Winter Orientation.

Introducing January-start students to college life, Orientation will kick off at the at the College’s Welland, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls Campuses at 9 a.m.

“Orientation is one of the most important times of the year as we welcome new students into college life,” said Lesley Calvin, manager of Student Engagement, Academic Advisement and Career Services. “For all of our main activities, we aim to provide our new students with the tools and information they need for successful transition into college life as well as providing relevant and engaging programming for them have fun and start building connections to their academic programs, the campus staff and faculty, and their new peers. It’s a really magical time for us in postsecondary.”

Campus tours will be available at the Welland Campus (info Centre), from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. to noon; at the NOTL Campus (info Centre) from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 10:30 a.m. to noon; and at the Niagara Falls Campus from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (front entrance).

To become acquainted with the variety of on-campus services, students may browse through the Student Services Fair at the Welland Campus (Learning Commons) and the NOTL Campus (Cafeteria) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; or attend a Scavenger Hunt for service locations at the Niagara Falls Campus (front foyer), available from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Program information sessions offer students opportunities to find out more about their academic programs, get a head-start on the curriculum, and meet faculty and their peers. They will be held at the Welland Campus from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and the Niagara Falls Campus from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Co-op information sessions will take place at the Welland and NOTL Campuses from 11:30 a.m. to noon, and Blackboard tutorials – to learn how to navigate the college’s portal for grades, fees, admissions and timetables – will be available at all three campuses (visit http://orientation.niagaracollege.ca/ for times and locations).

Students can enjoy live music and free lunch at the Welland Campus (Learning Commons, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., lunch: noon to 1 p.m.), and the NOTL Campus (cafeteria, noon to 1:30 p.m., lunch: noon to 1 p.m.) Prizes will be announced at the Welland Campus (Learning Commons) and NOTL Campus (Cafeteria) from 12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., and at the Niagara Falls Campus (Student Commons) from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Additional activities will be held following Orientation Day, including Tony Lee X-Rated Hypnotist on Jan. 11 (Welland Campus, The Core, doors open at 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.), Karaoke on Jan. 12 (NOTL Campus, The Armoury, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.), a Mix n’ Mingle on Jan. 13 (The Core, Welland Campus, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) and more.
The College’s International Division will present additional activities as part of International Student Orientation from January 4 to 7 including a variety of information sessions and a visit to Niagara Falls.
