As work continues on the 13,000 square-foot expansion of the Canadian Food and Wine Institute at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus, temporary access changes will be in place in May – August. The CFWI expansion is a key element of a major campus redevelopment at the Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake campuses designed to support growth, enhance the student experience and expand Niagara College’s research and innovation capabilities:
Note: The main entrance of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus will be closed on Saturday, June 25. The alternate entrance during this time is south entrance of the east wing. The main entrance will re-open June 27.
Construction of a fixed link that will provide sheltered access between the CFWI building and the east wing of the main building will commence the week of May 30 and continue until late August. During this time, access will be restricted between the two buildings, including the northwest entrance to the CFWI building, the south entrance to the east wing and the existing pathway. Update: NOTL Admin/Cafeteria-Student Commons project
Further to the previous construction alert regarding NOTL Administration and the cafeteria student commons projects at the NOTL Campus.
- The main floor west wing washrooms will be closed for the summer for refurbishment and expansion. All other main floor washrooms remain open.
- Parking spaces along the north road have been set aside as a contractor area (See Graphic 1).

Supporting Growth and Enhancing Student Experience
The expansion of the Canadian Food and Wine Institute at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus supports Niagara College’s position as Canada’s premier college for food and fermentation sciences and will help meet growing demand for its culinary, wine and brewery programs. The 13,000 square-foot one-floor addition will be constructed on the east side of the existing CFWI building and will include an expanded baking and pastry lab, quantitative lab, qualitative lab and central stores. Renovations to the existing stores area will complete a culinary, butchery and charcuterie lab. Construction began in October, 2015 and completion is scheduled for January, 2017.
