Niagara College mourns loss of Marilyn Walker

A message from Niagara College president Dan Patterson:

We are deeply saddened by the news of Marilyn Walker’s passing.
Marilyn represented the true spirit of a philanthropist and community builder, working tirelessly on many community causes. She was a long-time supporter of Niagara College, our faculty, staff and students. She loved to engage with our students and learn about new innovative programs and initiatives. Marilyn and her husband Norris also contributed to our students’ success through generous contributions to scholarships and attending fundraising events.
Our Benchmark staff will greatly miss serving Marilyn at the restaurant and the opportunity to cater events at her home.
Most recently, Marilyn joined her family in April at our Seafood Gala for the announcement of a $1.2 million contribution by Walker Industries and the Walker family to our Achieving Dreams campaign, supporting the Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre, now under construction at our Welland campus.
We are honoured that, in addition to her lasting legacy through her tremendous community service and contribution to the cultural revitalization of the Niagara Region, Marilyn’s legacy will also be felt throughout our campuses.
Saundra and I shared many special times with Marilyn and Norris. On behalf of the Niagara College community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Norris and the Walker family. Marilyn will be greatly missed.
