More than $160000 was raised at this year’s sold-out Seafood Gala to support student success at Niagara College.
Held on April 11 2015 at the Fallsview Casino Resort the sold-out event drew 685 guests – including business community and education leaders. Proceeds from the gala will fund equipment and learning resources and scholarships and bursaries to support student success.
“We’re very grateful to our guests and sponsors who are so generous in their support of our students” said Niagara College president Dan Patterson. “It is through this support that so many of our students are able to pursue and achieve their dreams.”
The event also included the announcement of Niagara College’s largest-ever corporate gift and the launch of the Achieving Dreams Campaign with a goal of $7 million. Representatives of the Walker family and Walker Industries Holdings Limited donated $1.2 million in support of the campaign which is raising $4 million in support of the college’s $55 million Capital Vision expansion project. The campaign is also raising $1 million for instructional equipment to help make students work ready; and $2 million to support scholarships bursaries study work abroad and leadership development opportunities for students.
More than 100 NC students from a variety of academic programs volunteered at the seafood gala which included live and silent auctions and live entertainment. Sponsors of the gala included Presenting Sponsor Fallsview Casino Resort; Media Sponsor The Niagara Falls Review The Standard and The Tribune; and Admiral Sponsor Rankin Construction Inc. The chair of this year’s gala was Charles Daly a member of the Niagara College Foundation Board.
Niagara College offers more than 100 diploma bachelor degree and advanced level programs at campuses in Welland Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls; as well as more than 600 credit vocational and general interest Continuing Education courses. Areas of specialization include food and wine sciences advanced technology media applied health and community safety supported by unique learning enterprises in food wine beer horticulture and esthetics.
