The Niagara College Foundation’s 2014 Golf Classic proved to be a hole in one for Niagara College students.
Held on September 16 2014 at Peninsula Lakes Golf Club in Fenwick the sold-out event raised $36000 to support scholarships for student-athletes.
“Our student-athletes positively contribute to student life at Niagara College by participating in varsity sports and we are pleased that the support generated through the Golf Classic will greatly enhance athletic and academic opportunities for them” said Sean Kennedy vice-president Student and External Relations and CEO of the Niagara College Foundation.
More than 140 golfers – including community and business leaders from across Niagara and the GTA – attended this year’s Golf Classic.
Key supporters of the event included presenting sponsors Rankin Construction the St. Catharines Standard Niagara Falls Review and Welland Tribune; and ace sponsors Johnson Insurance and PenFinancial Credit Union. PenFinancial CEO Robert Watson who is also vice chair of the Niagara College Foundation Board of Directors chaired the Foundation’s golf classic committee.
The tournament also equipped more than 75 Niagara College student volunteers with practical experience directly related to their programs. Students from the College’s Canadian Food and Wine Institute’s culinary wine and beer programs were involved with the event; as well as those from its paramedic event management and public relations programs. It also included varsity athletes the college’s sustainability committee and Niagara Research. Representatives from the College’s Workforce Development division were also in attendance.
Niagara College offers more than 100 diploma bachelor degree and advanced level programs at campuses in Welland Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls; as well as more than 600 credit vocational and general interest Continuing Education courses. Areas of specialization include food and wine sciences advanced technology media applied health and community safety supported by unique learning enterprises in food wine beer horticulture and esthetics.
