Chefs Anna and Michael Olson to host Caps Corks and Forks Feb. 6 event

Students at Niagara College’s Canadian Food and Wine Institute are gearing up for an epic battle between beer and wine on Feb. 6 to be hosted by chefs Anna and Michael Olson.

The unique dining event called Caps Corks and Forks will showcase work and expertise the College’s culinary beer and wine students. Culinary students will prepare an elegant six-course meal for guests as a student wine team and student beer team face off for the best beverage pairings. Their battle for supremacy rests in the hands and palattes of guests who vote for their favourite pairing after each course with either a cap or a cork. Excitement builds as votes are tallied and the status of each team is announced after each course until the ultimate winner is declared at the end of the evening.

Feb. 6 marks round six of Caps Corks and Forks. Since it was launched in 2012 Team Wine has celebrated three victories while Team Beer has won twice.

Dean of the CFWI Craig Youdale notes how the event is not only a memorable evening for guests but an unparalleled learning opportunity for students. “Caps Corks and Forks is a  event that reflects the Canadian Food and Wine Institute’s approach to food wine and beer education that is truly unique in Canada” said Youdale. “The event is a fun and delicious way for our students to apply their skills and knowledge.”

“An event like Caps Corks and Forks stands out because it is all about the students and their relationship with their focus whether food wine or beer” said celebrity chef host Anna Olson. “Their enthusiasm is contagious and it that spirit that gives the evening its verve. Even though the dining guests have to pick a winner we all win.”
