Six Niagara College graduates earn Premier’s Award nominations

Six Niagara College graduates have been nominated for 2013 Premier’s Awards.

Presented annually as part of the Colleges Ontario Higher Education Summit the Premier’s Awards celebrate the outstanding contributions of six Ontario college graduates in six different categories: Business Creative Arts and Design Community Services Health Sciences Technology and Recent Graduate.

Niagara College’s 2013 nominees include:

?   Business: René Galipeau vice-chairman and CEO Nuinsco Resources Limited and Victory Nickel Inc;

?   Creative Arts and Design: Peter Raymond director of operations CTV Media Releases Toronto;

?   Community Services: Peter Kormos (posthumous) politician;

?   Health Services: Kevin Smith chief Niagara Emergency Services;

?   Technology: Robert McNeil president and general manager NRB Inc. and NRB (USA) Inc; and

?   Recent Graduate: David Penny executive chef.

“Our alumni community is more than 60000 strong and includes accomplished graduates who are making a positive impact in all corners of society and we are  proud to nominate these graduates who have distinguished themselves among a very successful group” said Niagara College president Dan Patterson.

This the first time Niagara College has nominated a graduate posthumously.  

“Peter Kormos’ stellar career of community service has touched so many people and this nomination is in recognition of his lifetime of achievement” said Patterson.

The winners will be announced on Monday November 18 at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto.

Niagara College offers more than 100 diploma bachelor degree and advanced level programs at campuses in Welland Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls; as well as more than 600 credit vocational and general interest Continuing Education courses. Areas of specialization include food and wine sciences advanced technology media applied health and community safety supported by unique learning enterprises in food wine beer horticulture and esthetics.
