Niagara College Homecoming 2009

Homecoming is an emerging tradition at Niagara College and an excellent opportunity for alumni to reconnect with former classmates, faculty and friends.

Alumni Relations and campus partners have planned a series of exciting events during the Niagara Food Festival weekend, providing alumni with a great chance to reconnect with the Niagara College community as well as participate in festival activities.

Pick one or more events and come celebrate Homecoming 2009 with those who shared the Niagara College experience; it’s a life-long relationship!

Niagara Ice Dogs vs Mississauga starts at 7:30 p.m.

Alumni Relations & SAC present: Niagara College Night with the Niagara Ice Dogs

Tailgate party proceeding the game with live music, food and drinks at 6 p.m.

Cost: $15 Includes ticket, T-shirt for the first 50 registrants, snack and discount on Ice Dogs merchandise.

Alumni Tent at the Niagara Food Festival

Last year, more than 80,000 people attended Niagara's tastiest weekend in downtown Welland.

Come by the Niagara College Tents during the annual Niagara Food Festival:

  • Pick up a FREE Niagara College Grad Button and other Niagara College swag.
  • Update your contact information and learn about other Homecoming events.
  • Sign our poster board and have your picture taken for the Alumni Website.
  • Learn about exciting new developments at Niagara College.
  • Register for the In Touch Newsletter and Alumni E-Bulletin.
  • Eat food prepared by Niagara College students and staff, and drink wine made by Niagara College students!

Varsity Basketball Reunion –
6 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Hit the hardwood again and rejoin the action. The body may have changed but the spirit remains the same.

We have a legacy of competitive teams and a long history of great players that have proudly represented Niagara College over the last 41 years.

  • Mackenzie Gym, Welland Campus
  • Women’s Tip-off – 6 p.m.
    Men’s Tip-off – 8 p.m.

Cost: $10 - Includes access to Alumni Pub Night at After Hours Student Centre immediately following the games.


Alumni Pub Night - 7:30 p.m. - 11 p.m.

Mark Lalama

A great opportunity to get back on campus and socialize with alumni, faculty, and friends.

  • After Hours Student Centre, Welland Campus
  • Plenty of entertainment including performances by:
    • the Niagara College House Band at 8 p.m.
    • Canadian Idol pianist Mark Lalama with Accordian Crimes at 9 p.m.

Cost: $10 - Includes assorted finger foods and non-alcoholic drinks.

Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009

Ball Hockey Tournament – 9:30 a.m.– 2 p.m.

Shoot, Score and Celebrate Homecoming 2009! Why not get a team together, grab the gloves and sticks and get in on one of the fastest growing sports in Canada?

If you have never played ball hockey before this is the perfect chance to try it out. The tournament has two divisions, Competitive and Recreational, for all skill levels and abilities.

  • Hosted by Ball Hockey International, located at the Welland Campus
  • Maximum 12 teams, 11 player roster
  • Cost: $275/team ($25/player) - Includes 3 games of ball hockey, barbeque lunch and raffle draw entry.
  • Proceeds are reinvested for the students in Equipment & Learning Resources

Registration deadline is Sept. 28, 2009. For more information please contact alumni@niagaracollege.ca.

International Soccer Tournament – 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Get your kicks this Homecoming by registering for the first ever International Soccer Tournament. The event will be coordinated by Niagara College’s International department.

The tournament provides a great opportunity for our students and alumni to demonstrate their skills in a fun, yet competitive atmosphere.

  • Soccer Field, Welland Campus

Cost: $5 – Includes barbeque lunch between games.

Homecoming Barbecue Lunch –
11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Grab something from the grill and enjoy the patio with old classmates. Gather in a group and tour the campuses. What has changed since you attended Niagara College?

  • After Hours Student Centre, Welland Campus
  • M&M’s hot dogs and hamburgers to be provided

Campus Tours – Times Vary

Catch up on the exciting developments and new construction at Niagara College.

  • Welland Campus – 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. – Meet at After Hours Student Centre
  • Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus – 1:15 p.m. – Meet at Wine Education and Visitor Centre

Homecoming Reunions

Homecoming is a great chance to reunite with former friends, classmates and faculty and to observe the changes and accomplishments of Niagara College.
